One of my favorite books, which I used to reread almost every year back in my twenties. Maybe it’s time to read it again. Certain episodes (like the mountain pass that fills dangerously with snow in late April, or the racist guy who kicks our hero out of the dormitory he was sleeping in, or the old woman who asks if he’s “the TV feller,” are permanently engraved in my mind.

Yeah, it's a great read, filled with unforgettable places and characters. Makes me want to check up on more of these places in real life and see what's become of them in the time since. Once interesting theme is when he talks about some of these places becoming fashionable (Woodstock, VT; Greenwich; CT) and the steps they've had to take to preserve their character - something I always find interesting.
